WordPress Themes for Nonprofits: 3 Themes and 2 Charity Templates, Compared

A good WordPress theme for a nonprofit puts a working donate button on every page, gives each cause its own page with a goal, and makes volunteering and events easy to find. We compared the 5 options on Manob that fit. Shanti is the closest to a ready charity site; EcoGreen suits environmental and animal-welfare groups.

What Manob has for nonprofits, and what it doesn't

Manob's stock for charities is small, so this list is short on purpose. Three WordPress themes fit: one built for charities (Shanti), one environmental theme with a dedicated charity demo (EcoGreen), and one campaign theme that works for advocacy groups (Lidership). Two charity HTML templates round it out. We opened every demo on October 13, 2026 and checked which donation tool each one actually runs.

We left out themes that are tagged "charity" or "nonprofit" but aren't built for one, including a law-firm theme, a driving-school theme and a gardening theme. We also dropped Multilen Environment: it sits in Manob's charity category, but its demo reads like a landscaping and environmental-services company, its Donate Now buttons don't link anywhere, and no donation plugin is installed. If you run a political campaign rather than a charity, our political WordPress themes roundup covers that stock in more depth.

Nonprofit WordPress themes

Shanti: best for a charity or foundation that takes donations online

Shanti is the one theme here written for charities from the start. The demo runs GiveWP, the free donation plugin, and each cause is a GiveWP donation form: the homepage shows cause cards with a raised-versus-goal progress bar, and each Donate Now button opens that cause's form. It also has the pages a charity needs and a corporate theme lacks: All Causes, Cause Details, Volunteer, Become A Volunteer, Career and Company Overview. You get three home versions plus an animated and a video home.

It's built with Elementor, and Manob marks it WPML-compatible; the listing also names Polylang, Loco Translate, Contact Form 7 and MailChimp for WordPress. The demo's donation gateway is set to an offline test mode, so plan to connect Stripe or PayPal inside GiveWP yourself.

EcoGreen: best for environmental, conservation and animal-welfare groups

EcoGreen is an environmental theme with a wide demo menu: Ecology and Environmental homes, a Charity & Non-Profit demo, Animals Protection, Wildlife, two zoo demos, plus solar, agriculture and gardening versions. The Charity & Non-Profit demo places GiveWP donation forms with preset amounts directly on the page, and a separate Donation page lists campaigns such as a tree-planting fundraiser.

The main homepage is written like an environmental services company, with a Get A Quote button and a customer counter, so start from the charity or animal demo instead. EcoGreen uses Elementor, Manob marks it WPML-compatible, and the demo also loads Contact Form 7 and MailChimp for WordPress. Manob's tag list for this item mentions car repair, which is a listing error; the theme itself is environmental.

Lidership: best for an advocacy group that campaigns

Manob lists this as "Political, Election Campaign and Party Candidate WordPress Theme"; the demo calls it Lidership. Its listing says it also suits social movements and nonprofit organizations, and the homepage backs that up for advocacy work: a GiveWP donation form with preset amounts (in test mode on the demo), Become A Volunteer blocks, an upcoming-events section with its own event pages, and a Mailchimp signup. There are 10 numbered home versions and two one-page layouts, it's built with Elementor, and Manob marks it WPML-compatible.

The demo copy is about elections, parties and ministers, so expect to rewrite most of it. Pick it when your nonprofit lobbies, petitions or mobilizes supporters, not when it mainly delivers services.

Charity HTML templates

An HTML template is a set of static files you upload to any host. There's no WordPress to update, which suits a small volunteer-run charity, but there's also no donation engine: the Donate buttons need a hosted donation form or a payment link behind them, and every new cause means editing code. Our HTML5 templates hub explains the trade-off, and our Bootstrap 5 roundup shows how to check a template's framework version. Both picks below are on Bootstrap 4.

Charitian: best for a small charity that wants many pages without WordPress

Charitian has two homepages (a default and a fundraising version) and a long page list: causes and cause details, events and event details, volunteer, how we help, FAQ, career, gallery and blog. The homepage cause cards show goal and raised amounts, and the volunteer form asks for name, email, phone, address and a message; the listing says the contact and volunteer forms work over AJAX. Every Donate Now button leads to a cause details page that has no payment form yet, so that's the first thing you'd add. The demo loads Bootstrap 4.5.3.

Charitify: best for an NGO that runs events and campaigns

Charitify has Default and Modern homepages and 15+ pages, including about, causes, events, gallery, volunteers, several blog layouts and contact. The homepage features a campaign with goal and raised figures, an upcoming-events list and a volunteer call to action. Its Donate buttons are placeholders that point nowhere, it's built on Bootstrap 4.0.0, and the listing notes that demo images aren't included in the download, so budget for your own photos.

How to choose a WordPress theme for a nonprofit

  • Donations come from a plugin, not the theme. The three WordPress picks here run GiveWP, which is free on WordPress.org and had 100,000+ active installations as of October 2026. Its plugin page says PayPal and Stripe are included in the free plugin, while recurring donations are listed among its add-ons. Check that a theme styles GiveWP forms well before you buy it; the HTML picks need an external donation form.
  • A page per cause, with a goal. Donors give to specific things. Shanti, Charitian and Charitify all show raised-versus-goal figures. If those numbers are typed into the page rather than pulled from your donation tool, someone has to keep them current.
  • Volunteer sign-up that reaches a person. A theme's volunteer form (Shanti, Charitian) emails you an application. If you schedule shifts, link to a volunteer-management tool instead.
  • Events if you fundraise in person. Lidership, Charitian and Charitify have event pages. Selling tickets needs a ticketing plugin or service; see our event website templates if events are the main job.
  • Room for the basics donors look for. No theme writes your about page, privacy policy or a note on how donations are used. Make room for them in the footer and on the donate page.
  • Speed on a phone. The Shanti, EcoGreen and Lidership demos all load a Revolution Slider plugin. Run your finished pages through PageSpeed Insights, and drop the slider if you don't need it.
  • Translation for multilingual communities. Shanti, EcoGreen and Lidership are marked WPML-compatible on Manob.

Once you've chosen, follow our guide to installing a WordPress theme manually, then customize it to your causes. If you're weighing the spend, how much a WordPress theme costs breaks down prices across Manob's catalog.

Regular vs Extended License

Every product on Manob has two license prices. The Regular License covers a single end product where your end users aren't charged. The Extended License is for an end product whose users are charged, for example a paid members-only area. If you aren't sure which one your site needs, read the license terms or ask the seller before you buy. Neither license lets you redistribute the source files as they are, and an agency building sites for several charities needs a license per site. Every purchase includes 6 months of free seller support through Manob's ticket system, which you can extend. Every item can be previewed before purchase, and every product is manually reviewed before approval.

When to look elsewhere

  • You need it free. Everything on Manob is paid; prices across the catalog run from $9 to $93. A search for "nonprofit" in the WordPress.org theme directory returned 90 themes as of October 2026, and the directory requires every theme to be 100% GPL or GPL-compatible. Paired with GiveWP, a free theme can be enough for a small charity.
  • You want far more choice. ThemeForest's Non Profit & NGO WordPress category listed 482 themes as of October 2026, including 203 under Charity and 58 under Environmental.
  • Online giving is the whole job. If you mainly need recurring gifts and a donor database, a dedicated fundraising platform may serve you better than any theme. Link to it from a simple site.
  • Nobody on staff will run WordPress. Read how to hire a WordPress developer, or browse every WordPress theme on Manob with that person.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best WordPress theme for a nonprofit?

It depends on the work you do. On Manob, Shanti fits a charity or foundation that takes donations online, EcoGreen fits environmental and animal-welfare groups, and Lidership fits advocacy groups that campaign and run events.

What are the best free WordPress themes for nonprofits?

The WordPress.org directory had 90 themes matching "nonprofit" as of October 2026, all free and GPL-licensed. Pair one with the free GiveWP plugin for donations. Every theme on Manob is paid, but you can open each live demo for free.

Do nonprofit WordPress themes include a donation system?

Not on their own. Shanti, EcoGreen and Lidership are designed around GiveWP, a separate free plugin that handles the donation forms and payments. You still connect a payment gateway such as Stripe or PayPal.

Should I use a charity website template or a WordPress theme?

Use a charity HTML template such as Charitian or Charitify if your causes rarely change and someone can edit code. Use WordPress if staff need to add causes, post news and take donations without touching code.

Can a nonprofit WordPress theme handle volunteer sign-ups?

Yes, as a form. Shanti and Charitian have volunteer forms that send the application to you. For shift scheduling, link to a volunteer-management tool.
