How much does a WordPress theme cost on manob.ai?
We recorded the buyer price of every item listed on manob.ai on 13 October 2026: 707 items, of which 303 are WordPress themes. All prices are the Regular License price in US dollars, including the buyer fee. The method is explained at the end.
| Item type | Items | Lowest | Median | Mean | Highest |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress themes | 303 | $20 | $41 | $44.96 | $93 |
| HTML / Bootstrap / Tailwind templates | 327 | $9 | $23 | $24.27 | $50 |
| Figma, PSD and XD design files | 44 | $11 | $13 | $15.80 | $32 |

| All items | 707 | $9 | $29 | $33.11 | $93 |
The median WordPress theme costs 1.78 times the median HTML template ($41 against $23). A theme ships more than markup: PHP templates, theme options, page builder integration and often a demo importer. The middle half of WordPress themes (25th to 75th percentile) costs $39 to $49, so most prices sit in a narrow band.

How much more does an Extended License cost?
On Manob, a Regular License covers one end product whose end users aren't charged, such as a business website. An Extended License covers one end product whose end users are charged, such as a paid membership site or a SaaS product. Neither license lets you redistribute the source as-is.
| Item type | Median Regular | Median Extended | Median of Extended ÷ Regular |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress themes | $41 | $59 | 1.45× |
| HTML templates | $23 | $36 | 1.45× |
| Figma / design files | $13 | $160 | 10× |
| React / Next.js templates | $34 | $615 | 17× |
| Shopify themes | $41.50 | $2,055 | 47× |
| All items | $29 | $57 | 1.45× |
For WordPress the uplift is small and predictable. 293 of 303 themes (96.7%) price the Extended License at no more than 1.5 times the Regular one, and the median gap is $18. Design files, React templates and Shopify themes are different: their sellers price Extended Licenses many times higher, up to $3,722. If your end users will pay, read the license price on the product page before you build anything.
What does a WordPress site cost beyond the theme?
The theme is rarely the only cost, and often not the largest. The reference points below come from each provider's own page on the date shown. Prices change, so check them again before you buy.
| Cost | How it's billed | Verified reference point |
|---|---|---|
| Premium theme | Per license | $41 median on manob.ai (13 Oct 2026). Free themes on the WordPress.org directory cost $0. |
| Hosting | Monthly or yearly | WordPress.com Personal: $4 a month billed annually, or $9 billed monthly (wordpress.com/pricing, 13 Oct 2026). It's the cheapest WordPress.com plan that allows theme uploads (WordPress.com support). WordPress.org recommends PHP 8.3+, MySQL 8.0+ or MariaDB 10.11+, and HTTPS from any host. |
| .com domain | Yearly | Verisign's wholesale .com fee rises from $10.26 to $10.97 a year on 1 November 2026 (Verisign Q1 2026 release). ICANN's FY2026 fee schedule charges registrars $0.20 per domain-year (FY2026 fees), so a registrar's cost is about $11.17 a year before margin. |
| Premium plugins | Usually yearly | Example: WPML costs €39 (1 site), €99 (3 sites) or €199 (unlimited), each with a year of updates and support (wpml.org, 13 Oct 2026). Many themes need only free plugins, so check the theme's required-plugins list first. |
| Theme support | Included, then optional | Manob items include 6 months of seller support. Extending it costs 30% before it expires, or 75% after. |
| Customization | Your time, or a quote | Depends on scope. See how to customize a theme or how to hire a WordPress developer. |
Using only those reference points, the cheapest first year for one site comes to about $100: a median theme ($41), WordPress.com Personal billed annually ($48) and a .com at the wholesale floor ($11.17). Treat that as a floor, not a typical budget. Real budgets add premium plugins, a host with more resources, and the hours spent on content and customization. Hosting and domains also renew every year.
Should you pay for a premium WordPress theme?
A free theme is enough when:
- You're building a blog or a simple brochure site, and a block theme's Styles panel covers your branding
- You want themes reviewed against WordPress.org's rules. Every theme in the official directory is reviewed by a dedicated team before it's listed (WordPress.org).
- You or your developer would rather build pages from scratch than adapt a demo
Paying is worth it when:
- The theme fits your niche. A restaurant, clinic or construction theme comes with menus, booking, service and project layouts already designed. Compare restaurant, medical and construction picks.
- The demo import saves you days. Weigh the license price against the hours it would take to build the same pages yourself.
- You want someone to ask. Manob items include 6 months of seller support through a ticket system.
- The theme is built for your page builder. That matters if your team already works in Elementor.
What should you look for in a premium WordPress theme?
- A working live demo. Click through it on your phone. Every item on manob.ai can be previewed before purchase.
- Compatibility. Look for the WordPress and PHP versions the theme supports, and when it was last updated.
- Block theme or classic theme with a builder. This decides how you'll edit the site. See our customization guide.
- The required plugins list, and whether any of them are paid.
- The license you need, Regular or Extended, and the price of each.
- Support length and channel, plus the cost of extending it.
- Translation readiness, if you'll run more than one language. 139 Manob items are WPML-ready.
- Demo speed. Run the demo URL through a speed test, keeping in mind that your own content and plugins will change the result.
- Documentation and a child theme in the download package. Our install guide shows what a typical package contains.
How did we collect this data?
We priced every item listed on manob.ai on 13 October 2026: 707 published items from the marketplace's product records. The Regular price is the seller's Regular License price plus the Regular buyer fee, the same figure manob.ai stores as the item's Regular price. The Extended price is the Extended License price plus its fee. We grouped items by type using each item's category plus the framework named in its title: WordPress category items are themes, React or Next.js in the name means a React template, and so on. Plugins, Elementor template kits, scripts, a Moodle theme and a Flutter UI kit went into "Other." No item was on sale that day, so no discounts apply. We report medians alongside means because a few very high Extended prices pull the averages up. These are seller-set list prices on one marketplace, captured on one day. They aren't sales data, and prices may change. The live product cards in this article always show current prices. Frequently asked questions
How much should I pay for a WordPress theme?
For a premium theme, about $39 to $49 covers most of the market on manob.ai, where the median is $41. Paying more doesn't guarantee a better theme, so judge it by its demo, its required plugins and its support.
Is a WordPress theme a one-time cost?
On manob.ai a theme is bought per item, with 6 months of seller support included; extending support is optional. Hosting, domains and most premium plugins renew every year.
Why are WordPress themes more expensive than HTML templates?
They include more: PHP templates, theme options, plugin integration and often a demo importer. On manob.ai the median WordPress theme costs $41 and the median HTML template $23.
Do I need an Extended License for a client website?
Usually not. A Regular License covers one end product whose end users aren't charged, which describes most business sites. You need an Extended License when the site's end users pay, as with a paid membership.
Can I use one theme license on several websites?
No. A Regular or Extended License covers a single end product, so each site needs its own license.
Are free WordPress themes safe to use?
Themes in the official WordPress.org directory are reviewed by a dedicated team before they're listed. Free themes from other sites carry more risk, so download them only from a source you trust.
