7 Bolt.new Alternatives for When Tokens, Stack or Hosting Don't Fit
By Manob Editorial ·

If Bolt.new's token use or JavaScript-only backend is the problem, look at Lovable for a fixed React stack with a built-in backend, Replit for Python and other languages, v0 for Next.js, or Base44 for per-message credits. Developers who'd rather code with AI help can use Cursor or GitHub Codespaces. manob.ai, our own platform, is a seventh option.
Bolt.new today: the baseline
Here's Bolt as of October 2026, from its pricing page and help center, checked on October 14:
- Free: 300,000 tokens a day and 1 million a month, public and private projects, website hosting, up to 333,000 web requests, unlimited databases and a 10 MB upload limit. Sites carry Bolt branding.
- Pro: $25 a month billed monthly, starting at 10 million tokens a month with no daily limit. It adds custom domains, private site sharing, a 100 MB upload limit and no branding. Yearly billing saves "up to 28%", though the page doesn't print the yearly price.
- Teams: $30 per member a month. Each member gets their own token allowance, and Bolt says tokens "are not shared among team members".
- Rollover: paid tokens stay valid for one extra month, two months in all, as long as your subscription is active.
- Stack: Bolt's supported technologies page lists any front-end JavaScript framework and Node.js on the backend. It says "languages such as PHP or Python aren't compatible." Mobile apps go through Expo, and databases run on Bolt Cloud or Supabase.
Why people look for a Bolt.new alternative
- Tokens go faster as the project grows. Bolt's FAQ says most token use comes from "syncing your project's file system to the AI", so the same prompt costs more in a big project than in a small one.
- The backend has to be JavaScript. If you need Python for data work or PHP for an existing system, Bolt can't run it.
- Team tokens don't pool. On Teams, one heavy user can run out while a colleague's allowance sits unused.
- You want to work in the code. Some builders outgrow chat-first editing and want a full editor and terminal.
Try this before you switch: cut Bolt's token use
If tokens are the only problem, these fixes from Bolt's own token efficiency guide may be enough:
- Shrink the project. Bolt says "a smaller project uses fewer tokens". Delete unused files and split very long files into smaller ones.
- Plan in Plan mode. It uses fewer tokens because it doesn't change your code. Settle the approach there, then switch to Build mode.
- Click instead of prompting. Buttons and built-in actions, such as Publish, don't use tokens. Prompting Bolt to do the same thing does.
- Undo with Version history. Restoring an earlier version costs no tokens. Asking Bolt to reverse a change does.
- Don't keep clicking Attempt fix. Every attempt uses tokens. After one or two, read the error yourself or ask about it in Plan mode.
Bolt.new alternatives at a glance
Each tool meters usage in its own unit, so the free allowances below can't be compared one to one. All figures come from each company's own page, as of October 2026.

The 7 alternatives, one by one
1. Lovable: the closest match, with a backend built in
Lovable feels the most like Bolt: chat on one side, live app on the other. It makes the stack decision for you. Its FAQ says new apps use TanStack Start (older ones use React and Vite) with a PostgreSQL database through Lovable Cloud or Supabase, and that it "does not offer a choice of framework or database". If you were going to pick React anyway, that's one less setup decision.
Lovable charges by credits, and a message costs more or less depending on the work. Its pricing page gives examples: 0.50 credits to make a button gray, 1.20 to add sign-up and login. The free plan gives 5 credits a day, up to 30 a month. Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits, or $21 a month billed yearly (plan details). Git sync to GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket works on every plan, but custom domains and downloading the code need a paid one. More options are in our Lovable alternatives roundup.
2. Replit: when the backend can't be JavaScript
Replit is the direct answer to Bolt's language limit. Its docs say it "supports all programming languages through integration with Nix" (source), so a Python API or a scheduled data job runs there. The free Starter plan is narrower than Bolt's: daily Agent credits up to a monthly cap, Lite build only, and one published app that goes down after 30 days. Connecting services such as Stripe needs Core, which costs $20 a month or $18 billed yearly (pricing). We compare Replit's own alternatives in Replit alternatives.
3. v0: when you've settled on Next.js
Bolt lets you pick a framework. v0 picks one for you and goes deep on it. Its FAQ says v0 "uses Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui", and previews run server-side code, API routes and database connections the way production does. The free plan allows 7 messages a day, with GitHub sync and deploys to Vercel. Plus is $30 per user a month with $30 of included credits per user (pricing). If your app starts from a Next.js template, see our roundup of React and Next.js templates.
4. Base44: when you'd rather count messages than tokens
Base44 meters usage in two kinds of credit: message credits for AI messages and integration credits for integration actions. Its pricing page says "exact usage varies based on the action and the selected AI model", so credits aren't a fixed price per prompt either. Every plan includes an "integrated backend and database system" plus authentication. The free plan covers up to 5 apps with 25 message credits a month. Starter is $16 a month billed yearly with 100 message credits, in-app code edits and a custom domain. GitHub integration starts on Builder, at $40 a month billed yearly.
5. GitHub Codespaces: a full dev environment, no AI meter
Codespaces isn't an AI builder. GitHub describes a codespace as "a development environment that's hosted in the cloud", which you open in a browser, in Visual Studio Code or through GitHub CLI (docs). It's a fit when you've exported a Bolt project to GitHub and want a real terminal, any language and any AI assistant you choose, without Bolt's token meter.
You pay for compute and storage. As of October 2026, GitHub Free accounts include 120 hours of compute and 15 GB-month of storage a month, and GitHub Pro includes 180 hours and 20 GB-month. A 2-core machine counts double against those hours, and pay-as-you-go 2-core compute costs $0.18 an hour (billing docs).
6. Cursor: an AI agent on code you control
Cursor calls itself "your coding agent for building ambitious software" and runs as a desktop app and a command-line tool. Open the repository you exported from Bolt and keep going with any stack. Its pricing page lists a free plan with limited agent requests, Plus at $8 a month (on which "only Grok models are available"), and Premium at $30 a month with four times Plus's usage. Third-party models cost extra, billed by usage at API list price. The pricing page doesn't list app hosting or a database, so plan for those separately.
7. manob.ai (our own platform): AI building next to a template marketplace
manob.ai is the site you're reading, so weigh this entry accordingly. The workspace has an AI chat, an agentic code editor, a cloud sandbox with live preview, and deploy. Plans as of October 13, 2026 (pricing):
- Starter, $0: 1,000 AI Energy a month, the chat, code editor and sandbox, 13 starter templates and deploy.
- Builder, $12 a month: 25,000 AI Energy, full-stack builds with an API, database and auth, a custom domain and marketplace listings.
- Pro, $24 a month: 80,000 AI Energy, freelancer marketplace access and priority support.
- Business, $49 a month: 200,000 AI Energy, team and agency capacity and a named contact.
The difference from Bolt is what surrounds the AI. You can start from one of more than 600 marketplace themes and templates, each previewable before you buy, and Manob-compatible themes can be edited with the AI. When you'd rather hand the last part to a person, the same marketplace sells freelance services. Where Bolt is ahead: its free plan includes hosting and unlimited databases, it documents its supported frameworks, and manob.ai's plan list doesn't name a framework or say how code export works. Check those before you commit a large project.
When to stay on Bolt.new
- You want framework choice within JavaScript. React or another front-end JavaScript framework, with Node.js behind it, is exactly Bolt's lane.
- You want a generous free plan with hosting. 1 million tokens a month, private projects, hosting and unlimited databases cost nothing.
- Your tokens roll over. Unused paid tokens last two months in total, which softens a slow month.
- You need web and mobile from one place. Bolt's Expo integration covers mobile without switching tools.
Before launch, you'll still need a domain pointed at the app. Our guides on buying a domain and domains versus hosting cover what to buy and why. For a marketing site next to the app, see our SaaS website templates.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to Bolt.new?
Yes. As of October 2026, Lovable, v0, Replit, Base44 and manob.ai all have free plans, each with its own usage cap. GitHub Codespaces is free within monthly included hours, but it doesn't include an AI builder.
Why does Bolt.new use so many tokens?
Bolt says most token use comes from syncing your project's files to the AI, so larger projects use more tokens per message. Removing unused files, splitting long files and planning in Plan mode all reduce it.
Is Lovable better than Bolt.new?
It's different. Lovable fixes the stack to React with PostgreSQL and includes a backend, and it charges credits by task size. Bolt lets you choose a JavaScript framework and charges by tokens.
Can Bolt.new build a Python backend?
No. Bolt's help center says it only supports JavaScript-based backends, so Python and PHP aren't compatible. Replit runs Python and other languages.
Do Bolt.new tokens roll over?
Paid tokens do. Since July 1, 2025, tokens from a paid subscription stay valid for one extra month, two months in all, and you need an active paid plan to use them.
