TemplateMonster Commission in 2026: What Authors Keep, and Where Else to Sell
By Manob Editorial ·

From July 1, 2026, TemplateMonster authors keep 20% of their own price on every product type, and the customer fee is added on top for the buyer. On a $50 product, the author earns $10. TemplateMonster products have been non-exclusive since January 1, 2026, so you can sell the same items on Envato, manob.ai or your own store at the same time.
TemplateMonster's commission, as of October 2026
TemplateMonster's commission page says that "starting July 1, 2026", the author's rate is 20% for every product type. Its own example: a product priced at $50 shows a storefront price of $58 once the customer fee is added, and the author receives $50 × 20% = $10.
- Your share is of your own price. The customer fee goes on top of it and isn't shared with you.
- One rate for everything. WordPress themes, HTML templates, Shopify themes and graphics all pay 20%, regardless of how much you sell.
- No exclusivity. The same page says "as of January 1, 2026, TemplateMonster no longer supports exclusive products."
The commission page doesn't list the rates authors earned before 2026, so treat any older figure you find in guides and forum posts as history, not as an option.
What a sale pays you across marketplaces
What the author keeps from one sale, before taxes and payment fees, at the rates each platform published as of October 2026:
| Platform | Author's share | On a $29 price | On a $49 price |
|---|---|---|---|
| TemplateMonster | 20% | $5.80 | $9.80 |
| ThemeForest / CodeCanyon | 50% | $14.50 | $24.50 |
| Creative Market | 50% by default | $14.50 | $24.50 |
| manob.ai (ours) | 65% | $18.85 | $31.85 |
| UI8 | 70%, plus unique-download income | $20.30 | $34.30 |
| Gumroad, direct sale | 90% minus $0.50 | $25.60 | $43.60 |
| Lemon Squeezy | 95% minus 50¢ | $27.05 | $46.05 |
The share is only half of it. TemplateMonster and Envato bring buyers you'd struggle to reach on your own, and a store like Gumroad keeps the most but brings no one. Sources for the other rows are in our ThemeForest alternatives comparison.
Other terms in TemplateMonster's 2026 author agreement
TemplateMonster republished its author agreement on January 1, 2026. The parts authors ask about most:
- Selling elsewhere: section 5.2 says items are accepted "on a non-exclusive basis only", and the author keeps "the full right to sell, license, and distribute the Item(s) through any other platform."
- Prices: your price has to stay within TemplateMonster's minimum and maximum for the category. There's no rule tying it to your prices elsewhere.
- Payouts: earnings are held for 25 days before you can withdraw them. The minimum withdrawal is $50 by PayPal or Payoneer and $500 by wire.
- Leaving: closing your author account takes 60 days' notice, and you support existing buyers for six months after that.
- Inactive accounts: an account with no sales and no new submissions for 365 days can be closed.
TemplateMonster also stopped taking bulk submissions of new WordPress themes, HTML templates, landing pages and graphics, and reviews each new author application individually.
Envato changed on the same day
Envato moved ThemeForest and CodeCanyon to a single non-exclusive model on July 1, 2026. Its announcement says content revenue is now "split evenly", so every author keeps 50% of the item price. Before that, non-exclusive authors paid a 55% author fee and exclusive authors paid 12.5% to 37.5%, depending on lifetime sales. So the change cut exclusive authors' share and raised non-exclusive authors' share a little.
One catch for new sellers: Envato says new Market author accounts can't be created at this time. If you're already an Envato author, the Market Author Terms let you sell the same items elsewhere, at the same 50%.
What TemplateMonster authors can do now
- Stay, and add a second marketplace. Because nothing is exclusive any more, listing elsewhere doesn't cost you your TemplateMonster sales. Our guide to selling on multiple marketplaces covers versions, demos and support.
- Price for each marketplace. At 65% on manob.ai, a $24 price pays you $15.60, the same as a $78 sale on TemplateMonster.
- Sell direct to your own audience. A Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy page keeps 90% or more, if you already have traffic.
- Copy your products in one go. The free manob Migrator copies your TemplateMonster products to manob.ai with their details and files, using the account already signed in in your browser. See how to move TemplateMonster products.
When TemplateMonster alone is still enough
- Your sales are steady there. 20% of many sales can be more money than 65% of a few.
- You don't have time to maintain more listings. Every marketplace means another upload for each update.
- Your buyers find you through TemplateMonster search and nowhere else yet.
Frequently asked questions
What commission does TemplateMonster take from authors?
From July 1, 2026, authors receive 20% of their own price for every product type, and TemplateMonster keeps the rest. The customer fee is added on top of that price for the buyer.
Is TemplateMonster exclusive?
No. As of January 1, 2026, TemplateMonster no longer supports exclusive products. The author agreement accepts items on a non-exclusive basis only.
Can I sell my TemplateMonster templates on other marketplaces?
Yes. The author agreement says you keep the full right to sell your items through any other platform, website or sales channel, and it doesn't require the same price elsewhere.
How does TemplateMonster's 20% compare with Envato?
Envato authors keep 50% of the item price since July 1, 2026, so the same $50 item pays $25 on ThemeForest and $10 on TemplateMonster. On manob.ai it pays $32.50.
How do I move my TemplateMonster products to manob.ai?
Use manob Migrator, a free Chrome extension that copies your products with their details and files, or upload each one with Upload in your seller menu. Your TemplateMonster listings stay as they are.
