What should I do if an item fails to install?

By Ratul Sikder ·

If your item completely fails to install, systematic troubleshooting is the key to finding the root cause. Start by reading the exact server error message, verifying your hosting meets the PHP/Node requirements, and checking your file permissions.

Installation failures can stem from dozens of potential issues, but carefully reading your server's explicit error messages will usually point you directly to the solution. Most catastrophic failures happen because of a strict mismatch between the item's technical requirements and your hosting environment, such as running an outdated PHP version or missing Node dependencies. Always re-download the item and extract it with a reliable tool like 7-Zip to ensure the files aren't corrupted. To systematically diagnose and fix the issue, follow these steps:

  • Verify Requirements: Check your hosting specs to ensure you have the correct PHP version (e.g., 8.1), an updated MySQL database, and required extensions enabled.
  • Common Fixes: Resolve "Memory limit exceeded" errors by increasing PHP memory to 256M, or fix "Permission denied" errors by setting folders to 755 via FTP.
  • Enable Error Logging: Turn on error reporting in your .env file or check your cPanel/server error logs to reveal the specific fatal errors causing the crash.
